Subject: Solid show and capture...
A few words... "Portrait of Kismet" tease by Zac at the beginning of the "It's Ice" jam... later in the same jam; "Story of the Ghost" tease. Cool little turn around Rob solo out of the jam back into the tune.

Haven't listened to the entire show yet... so I withhold any 'star rating' for the moment.

Keep It Greasy

Subject: U-Melt is fantastic.
great show (love the Zappa)....I also think there might be a MISSED tease or reprise in the middle of Disclaimer/Disilision. This show is juicy.

And the doors jam in Kizmet is nice as well.

Subject: Wow.
This was the 2nd time that i saw U-Melt, and it was at the same venue. The other time was the free show at the end of 2005. I'm very unfamiliar with their catalog... I knew a few songs, and at the show I recognized Air from the previous show but didn't know its name.

Anyway... Wow. Thats all i have to say. These guys really are something else. They took us from super happy Page's-YEM-Nirvana-piano-solo to the depths of hell when I felt as if we were all in a movie about a building burning down, and then back up again. There is just so much show here.

The thing that strikes me about U-Melt is that a shitload of their stuff seems composed and written out before hand, but that its not a simple repetition of a chord progression. That, and their vocal harmonies are SO good. They also seem to have really gotten into the techno jam thing, except that they don't always make it a synthed out trance party; it will often end with some super insane guitar solo or have Zack fly around on the piano or scream at us with his organ.

To be truthful... during this show, I had a powerful premonition that these guys are going to be Number 3. First it was the Dead who rose to fame because they were the only ones, then it was Phish who rose out of the small-but-growing number of jambands, and now with today's massive scene, there are so many different jambands covering such a diverse range of music, that there really isn't any one band who will become the true kings of the scene just because of its multitude of equally good bands.

However, at this show, I saw a real scene in the making. It made me think of what it must have been like to be at UVM in the late 80's or anywhere else, catching Phish in small clubs and playing the epic shows that we all covet today. I saw "kids skipping out on college to go dance for U-Melt" thing, and there were a number of times during the show that the older, more knowledgable Meltheads did things that are specific to only that scene: like with Phish's audience signals, the Wilson/Hood chants, Chess... things like that; things that were created out of the music and the audience that are unique only to that band. I hope that makes sense lol, but it was during those moments that you could tell who was REALLY into U-Melt, and who were just casual jamfans going to a sick show, myself included. But personally I like it more when I dont know anything about the band I'm seeing; it adds such an element of excitement and the unknown. You dont care whether or not they play Song X and not Song Y, or that you got pissed because you were expecting a different kind of show or anything like that. You just go to have the band take you on a journey through a place you've never been before.

Anyway... this show was absolutely mindblowing. I can't wait to listen to it again; thank you Rob Clarke for taping this show; I remember once early in the first set I did a "whoohoo" thing and then said "SHIT! I'M RUINING THE TAPE!!" lol

But i think one of the most powerful examples of their destiny was the fact that during this show, I lost all ambition to form a band of my own and try to create the Next One. But its not out of dis-enchantment or anything like that... I just want to be there for U-Melt. I want to be a part of this scene as it grows and matures; to have that feeling of "this isn't our band anymore" when you can't get tickets to a show because they've gotten so big. I want to be a part of that journey to "so big". If that makes any sense whatsoever.

Ok, im done now. I just had to share my experience with you. For those of you at the show, I was the long-haired kid in shorts who put his water bottle under the stage and was dancing stage right, right by the soundboard and in front of the drummer. That was also me who slipped and fell outside after the first set haha.

One thing i must comment on tho: During setbreak, while i was outside just chatting with a friend from school and a guy from Positive Mental Trip, i was trying to explain their sound a little and asked him if he liked the Disco Biscuits. Right after that, some chick in giant UFO pants or whatever they're called with a hoody on and pulled over her head got right in my face and said "FUCK THE DISCO BISCUITS. FUCK THEM. FUCK THE DISCO BISCUITS" Her friend followed, sarcastically asking "Whats a Bisco Discuit?" They went inside and i thankfully never saw them again.

Now, what the FUCK is that? You are part of a scene that promotes love and peace and community, yet you can expell such rage at someone over MUSIC??!?!? Why the fuck do you care who or what I like, why does it bother you so much? Of course its obvious that they were simply following on the Bisco-hating bandwagon. I think the Disco Biscuits are wonderful; i dont like everything that they do, but they're amazing players and have a truly unique sound. Its just a pitty they get looked on so badly because of the candy-raver crowd who goes there just so they can roll and have something to dance to. I'm a guitar player, and i appreciate their technical abilities and unique songwriting methods. Sure, I roll at their shows, but i also thoroughly enjoy listening/seeing them completely sober. So do i have something wrong with me? You people are so unneccessary.

thanks, thats all i have to say about that.
